With the closing ceremony of the Athens Olympics also closes the marathon construction project I began what seems like a year ago but was actually about 9 months ago. Procrastination and the ships schedule (mostly procrastination) caused the project to go on longer than it should have. However, the bookshelf is finally complete... including the last drawer that I hadn't completed as of a few weeks ago. The last drawer was in full use within 5 minutes of the "ceremonial christening" which signified the completed project. Nannette had the honors of sliding the last drawer into its final position in the book case.

I have started working on "natural" nosties (otherwise known as "those Scandanavian yarn winding thingies") made from the branches of a walnut tree. The wood is actually very light in color but solid as a rock. Pics to follow. After I get a few more made, I will be offering them for sale at a very reasonable price. After having a few under my belt, I am wanting to make them with more exotic woods.

On the non-woody front, we decided that the weather looked too "iffy" to take the kids camping this past weekend... even though the weather actually turned out ok.

On the squidly front, the ship will be getting underway for more work-ups in preparation for the upcoming deployment next year. Not looking forward to getting underway but once it's done, we'll have a nice "in port" time period.

That's about it for now. It's nearly time to turn in. Not looking forward to having duty tomorrow... but it's a necessary evil.
Have a good evening, everyone. Happy woodworking to all and to all a good night.
