Greetings from an undisclosed location somewhere on the other side of the world. It's about 4 am local time and I'm sitting here enjoying a cup of Barry's Tea and some girlscout cookies courtesy of my beautiful wife, Nannette.
Now I'm usually not much on commenting on current events but I am really tired of hearing about Terri Schiavo. If I were in her position, I would not want to be kept alive. I can't understand why they are making her suffer without food or water. That's borderline torture as far as I'm concerned. The courts of Florida have obviously condemned her to death so they should have the decency to give her a good dose of versaid now and again to keep her from suffering while her state sanctioned execution slowly plays out. What's the difference between what they are doing and just putting a bullet in her brain? Taking someone off life support when there's no hope of recovery is one thing. Her body is obviously quite capable of sustaining life as long as that body is fed and hydrated. Any one of us who don't eat or drink for a long period of time will suffer the same fate as Terri. Usually when "life support" is removed, that person succombs to whatever ailment or injury put them in their current position. Terri Schiavo is being starved and dehydrated until she dies. There have to be better alternatives. Unfortunately, she had never made out a living will while she was still capable so we may never know if her wishes would have been to keep her alive or not. So, while this is very unfortunate for her, it is a wake up call for the rest of us to make sure that our personal wishes are known, and a matter of legal record, before it is too late.
Well, I need to get off that subject. Don't know how that happened.
So, from somewhere in the Gulf, I'm Jack Huber... signing off for now. Good night.
